An Ethiopian family has been finally reunited, thanks to an interest-free travel loan provided by Sanctuary’s donors!
Girma is a former refugee from Ethiopia, forced to escape dangerous persecution by the Ethiopian Government due to false accusations made against him for his support for the opposition side of politics. He escaped and sought refuge in Kenya and ended up in Daadab Refugee Camp, where he spent ten long years of his life.
He was finally accepted under Australia’s Humanitarian Program, and arrived in Adelaide alone in 2010.
He was successful in finding work there at the Mantra Hotel but found learning English difficult, and he did not like the extreme heat in S.A.
He made a short trip back to Ethiopia where he met his wife.
Girma moved to Coffs Harbour in 2017 after a friend invited him to come and work blueberry picking. He has been doing that for more than 3 years now.
With help from Sanctuary, Girma was provided with an interest-free travel loan so that his wife and toddler daughter could finally join him in Australia.
Girma’s wife previously worked as a nurse and dental assistant in Adis Abiba and is planning to find work in this field once she has completed her studies here.
